Home for the Holidays: An Intimate Christmas Wedding in Bellingham

Ciara of Hendrickson events (also the bride model) and I have been friends since the first grade and have been dreaming about weddings ever since. This was our first styled shoot collaboration and was long overdue. The shoot was held at a private residence in Bellingham that has been featured numerous times in design magazines. Every corner of this home was eclectically decorated with vintage & new pieces. It was like walking into a holiday post card. Hendrickson Events sourced most of the decor pieces from the homes owners. Our models flew in all the way from Munich Germany especially for the shoot and are also a real couple. I imagine they’ll be getting engaged in the near future. All during the shoot, you could hear the models murmuring about how art was mirroring real life. <3  As for the florals, Bella Fiori once again wows me with her flair for unexpected seasonal blooms & greenery. Whenever I work with Bella Fiori, I give her the theme & color scheme of our shoot and then wait in anticipation for the beauty she will create. She continues to amaze me with the pieces she puts together. I especially love how she integrated berries & poinsettias into the brides bouquet. One of Bellingham’s most renowned and well respected local & organic caterers, Ciao Thyme, artfully frosted the most delicate sugary delights in the form of Christmas Cookies. We happily munched on this little dainties after the shoot and they are just as delicious as they are beautiful. One of my favorite makeup artists, Love Beauty, created a radiantly festive look for our bride complete with a gorgeous updo by Hair by Areca. The gown and suit were provided by the top bridal boutique in Whatcom County, Alicia’s Bridal and the Formal House. The Hi/Lo hem of the brides gown provides a bit of whimsy and sass while the traditional lace balances the look. A understatedly sparkly blush & silver jewelry set was handcrafted by local jewelry designer, Heidi Hull Designs. All in All, I think this shoot will provide ample inspiration for any bride considering an eclectic Holiday wedding at Home.

From The Coordinator:

A home for the holidays is something I always took for granted. Homemade cookies and sparkling cider, playing monopoly with my family while Christmas music played in the background; it meant more than I realized.

At 23 I took on a new challenge and moved to Germany. The first few months were filled with newness: new food, new culture and new friends. My first Christmas away from home was a new event like any other. I only missed the little things: mom's homemade scalloped Potatoes, the creepy Grandfather Christmas statue that we always had on the piano and conversation that sister and I had every year as to who would get to hang the angel.  However, there were so many other wonderful things about Christmas in Germany that the next three flew by. From the German Christmas markets to Glühwein, from an orphan's Christmas to one in the UK, my Christmases were spent making new traditions and, without fail, Skyping my family back home.

And then, my partner suggested we go home for Christmas. I have, for the past five years regarded Munich as my home, but quickly understood what he meant... HOME! My hometown, my family, my friends, my Christmas! From booking flights to last minute packing details, the months leading up to home flew by. Soon we were on a plane and headed HOME!

'Home for the Holidays' is a memory, but this year I got to live it. For me, Christmas is time for family, love and cherishing the precious moments we have together. Time for celebrating life, drinking in the moments and remembering the good times. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, Christmas is a special time. A time to love your family and friends with a hug or a hello via Skype.

Happy holidays to all, near and far. May your home always be where your heart is.
