THE ONE STOP SHOP FOR THE WHOLE WEDDING PARTY.
1. Tell us about your shop. I hear it's been in the family for YEARS!
Yes, just a few! Alicia's Bridal & The Formal House have been owned by the Needham/Reed family since 1957 so that makes us 58 years young! We started out in men's formalwear at the beginning and the bridal shop evolved from that since we wanted to be able to take care of the whole wedding party's attire. We still have both generations working in the business today!
2. What are the latest trends for wedding gowns?
Well, there are several right now! Soft tulle or chiffon with a more boho feel has been popular especially for outside or destination weddings. Lace gowns, with fit and flare silhouettes or trumpet skirts are popular but with specialty laces being mixed with point d'esprit and tulle to create a one of a kind look with lots of texture! I'm also starting to see some beautiful clean, simple gowns with the only accent being a gorgeous, beaded belt. Lots of different looks for all those brides to be!
3. Any advice for brides that have tried on a bunch of gowns and can't decide?
Yes, narrow your search down from the beginning to avoid being overwhelmed with too many choices! Look at different silhouettes to see what suits your figure, your venue, and your personality and then pick a few out to try on. If you don't love it, it is not the one! Move on and try the next one on. Always compare the next dress to your favorite so you don't end up with too many! Have your consultant suggest some as well since they have seen these gowns on and usually end up finding the perfect dress for you, especially after listening to what you want your wedding day to look and feel like. Most of all, have fun!
4. How soon should the bride start looking for and purchasing her gown?
I would start a year in advance or even more if you are a planner! You want to allow yourself 7+ months ahead of the wedding to special order your gown. It takes about 4-5 months to come in and then you have to plan for fittings and time for the seamstress to complete the alterations (we suggest 3 months for the alteration process). Now, that being said, we can always get dresses quicker with a rush or if the designer has something in stock or you can buy the dress from our stock as well. Lots of options if you are flexible.
5. Favorite bridal accessory?
My favorite accessory right now has got to be a cathedral veil! I love the romance it can bring to the bride's whole look and photographers are so creative using the veil in their pictures. Right Becca?! Putting together the whole look (headpiece, veil, jewelry, shoes, etc.) is the best part because it really brings together all the bride's ideas and really sets the tone for the whole wedding!
6. What designers do you carry in your store?
We carry several bridal designers in the store! Justin Alexander, Sincerity Bridal, Lillian West, Maggie Sottero, Mori Lee, Blu by Mori Lee, Voyage, Julietta, Allure Romance, White One, and a private line as well. We try to have several Trunk Shows with our designers throughout the year so brides can see more of that designer's gowns for the upcoming season. In fact, I am going to London in another week, as a guest of Justin Alexander Bridal, to see their new 2016 designs and to see one of Europe's biggest bridal markets in the world! Just a little excited!!! We also carry several bridesmaid lines and mother's lines as well! Mori Lee, Adrianna Papell, Alfred Angelo, Social Occasions by Mon Cheri, Cameron Blake, and Montage.
