1. White Tie

For ladies:
We are talkin’ the Oscars. Okay, not an over-the-top Lady Gaga dress… but definitely an elegant, full-length evening dress or ball gown – think Nicole Kidman. That woman is timelessly elegant. PS: if you haven’t caught on to this yet – short dresses are totally unacceptable for White Tie weddings!

For men:

white shirt, white bow tie, and black dress shoes (& if he wants to channel his inner Downtown Abbey – a silk top hat is perfectly welcomed)
2. BLACK TIE / FORMAL

Not nearly as boujee as white tie, but still dressed to your nines! Black tie / formal wedding guest attire is fairly common, but it shouldn’t be as stressful as a lot of people make them out to be.
For ladies:

However, formal wedding attire for women means you can definitely get away with a chic cocktail dress! Generally, for black tie weddings you’ll want to keep your dress at least to your knee, or just above it. For men:
A classic tuxedo! Typically, dark colored. A matching tie or bowtie. Shy away from anything that stands out too much.

Always keep in mind that at the end of the day you are going to a semi formal wedding, so even casual means clean yourself up!
For ladies:
A tasteful cocktail dress or jumpsuit. Key word here – TASTEFUL. You are not going to the club honey, so please don’t even consider wearing that ratchet Vegas dress that you’ve had hanging in your closet since you turned 21! Little black dresses are acceptable as long as your booty cheeks aren’t hanging or you’re about to have a Janet Jackson moment. By all means though, feel free to wear something fun and colorful and shows a little more leg or cleavage. You can even get away with a stylish romper. Just remind yourself that you are attending a wedding with lots of family around!

For men:
A suit and tie or a sport coat. This dress code allows for colors outside of black or a dark suit is navy/grey. It also allows for mis-matched separates… so you can wear light grey pants with a navy sport coat, for example. You can even get away with a nice button-up and dress pants.
Yes, this dress code allows much more freedom, but don’t get crazy and use Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber for your outfit inspo. The bride and groom didn’t put clowns on the guest list.
