Taylor and Paul got married at Chateau Lill in Woodinville on May 15, 2026, and the wind showed up as an uninvited guest. A week before the wedding, the forecast dropped from 73 and sunny to the low 50s and gusty. Taylor still wanted her outdoor portraits. So we leaned in, and that wind handed us my favorite veil shot of the year.
A little Paris in Woodinville
Paul proposed in Paris at Christmas, so a French chateau tucked into Woodinville wine country made perfect sense. Their planner, Dona of Like a Dream Weddings, and florist Lillers Co. leaned all the way into those European vibes: soft whites, lush greenery and an arch of white blooms that looked like it came straight out of a Parisian garden.
Taylor teaches first grade. Paul is a golf pro. They're both introverts, and they'll both tell you the camera isn't their favorite thing. My job was to make the day feel like theirs, not like a photoshoot.
Getting ready in the Chateau Suite
Taylor got ready in Chateau Lill's onsite suite, and it's one of my favorite getting-ready spaces anywhere. The natural light pours in, and the room has so much character that every corner already looks like a magazine spread. No hotel-room clutter to work around, just a beautiful space to slow down, sip something bubbly and get ready with your people.
Getting ready onsite also means no travel time on the wedding morning. When you're ready, you just walk out the door, and the whole day stays relaxed.
The tower window
Taylor was already getting ready up in the tower, so right before the first look, I had her lean out the window while Paul waited below with his back turned. It was her quick, secret peek at her handsome soon-to-be husband, veil trailing down the stone. A little bit fairytale, a little bit Romeo and Juliet.
First look under the wisteria
Then Taylor came down that grand staircase, and they had their first look in front of the chateau's wisteria-covered entrance.
Quiet, private and framed by wisteria vines, with just the two of them and a minute to breathe before the day got busy.
Private vows on the balcony
Before the ceremony, Taylor and Paul read their vows to each other privately on the balcony. It overlooks Woodinville wine country, and with those rolling views it honestly feels like Tuscany. For two introverts, saying the most personal words of the day without an audience was exactly right.
A tented ceremony under white bloom
Their dear friend Jessi officiated under the floral arch, and the tent kept everyone warm and dry while still feeling open and airy. When the ceremony is led by someone who knows you both, you can feel it in the room. There were happy tears in every row.
Portraits in the wind
Here's the thing about wind: you can fight it or you can use it. We used it.
The barrel wall: Taylor's veil caught the breeze mid-kiss and flew across the wine barrels. That's the first photo in this post, and I'm still not over it.
The upper ceremony space: Chateau Lill swapped the grass up there for a pale terracotta rock, and it bounces the most beautiful soft light back onto everyone. It's a natural reflector and honestly a photographer's dream. We did couple portraits and the wedding party photos here.
The secret island: Taylor and Paul trekked over to this hidden spot near the upper ceremony space for a few quiet portraits away from everyone.
The willow pond and footbridge: the most painterly corner of the property. Soft green, reflections in the water, zero effort required.
Taylor said it best: "My husband and I can both feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, but Becca brought such a joy to our photoshoot that we were both relaxed and having a great time." That's the whole job, friends.
The party
Guests warmed up from the wind at cocktail hour in the barrel room, surrounded by wine barrels. Then Taylor and Paul had dancing in front of the Grand Room fireplace.
Alexa's Cafe & Catering fed everyone beautifully, Music By J. Fields kept the dance floor full, and the Luxe Photobooth crowd was in rare form. CORT Party Rentals made the tent feel like a ballroom.
Their full gallery was delivered in under three weeks.
Planning a Chateau Lill wedding? A few tips from me
Plan for wind, not just rain. The tent is your best friend for both. Keep it ready as the backup for anything you planned outside.
Don't skip the tower. You're already getting ready up there, so embrace the photo opportunities: the massive staircase, the top of the tower and the window itself.
Save time for the willow pond. Even ten minutes there gives you some of the prettiest portraits of the day.
Hire a planner. Dona kept everything moving when the weather changed, so Taylor and Paul never had to think about it.
